Word Mix Dictionary Update

All:

After the server changes, there was an update to the dictionaries that caused a problem for some levels. Some of the levels are generating long words that appear to be two shorter words joined together. This is a result of there being an error in the dictionary. This has been fixed for both the common words and ospd dictionaries. Please do the following to update your dictionaries (if not prompted by the game to do so):

From the main Word Mix screen, press your devices Menu button. Tap "Settings". Tap "Dictionaries". If "common" is currently selected, choose "ospd". If "ospd" is selected, choose "common". Press your devices "back" button until you get back to the main Word Mix screen. At this point, you should see a message stating that it is loading the dictionary you chose (If not, try the above steps again). Please try to keep your device active while the dictionary is loading to ensure it gets loaded completely. Also, you will need a connection to the internet while it is doing this.

Word Mix Lite reaches 250k downloads!

Web server changes are done!

Transfer to the new server is done. Please be patient as the high scores slowly update themselves. If anyone notices any problems, please let me know!

Web server changes

I am going to be switching the webserver that hosts information for Word Mix this coming week. The switchover should be relatively seamless, however porting of the high scores might not update instantaneously. Please be patient. If your high score goes missing all of the sudden, please give it a day or two to refresh. I will announce when the switchover occurs this week.

Word Fenzy update

v1.0.4 of Word Frenzy (and Free) fixes the following:

High score not updating if starting new game from game play screen.

Word Frenzy updates

Word Frenzy and Word Frenzy Free have been updated to version 1.0.3.

Fixes:

1.) Force close during high score updating.

2.) When letters have been pressed, if you press on the blank ring below the guessed letters, an empty green circle appears in the guessed letter area. If this is done enough times the game force closes.

Both issues have been fixed with this update. Please upgrade your apps!

Word Mix major update

v1.5 of Word Mix and Word Mix Lite is out. Updates include new graphics as well as keyboard support and some force close issues.

Keyboard use:

Spacebar = Mix
Enter = Guess
Backspace/Delete = Removes the last letter pressed in the guess
Right shift = Last

Word Frenzy is released!!!

Word Frenzy has been released to the Android Market! Word Frenzy is an anagram game where Text Twist meets Yahtzee. It's fast paced and keeps your brain going! The object of the game is to guess as many words out of four sets of words as you can. You must guess enough words in the various categories to move to the next level. What's the catch you may ask? Well, the letter sets shift in and out while you play the game. More strategy is required and you have to be quick to guess the words before the letters disappear.

Just like Word Mix, Word Frenzy is $0.99 to buy the ad free version. Word Frenzy Free is available ad supported, but fully featured.

I just wanted to let you know that Greenrift Software's second Android release is imminent. Be looking for updates on this site as well as in the Android Market for our next release! The new app is faster paced than Word Mix. It should keep you on your toes and your brain going on full steam!

Social aspects in gaming

All,

I've been thinking of various items to add to the next Word Mix updates, as well as things to integrate into my next couple of games I'm working on (yes, I AM working on other games, very hush, hush for now though :) ).

How important are social features to you? I'm thinking things like head-to-head play, multiplayer (across network), achievements, high scores, challenging other players, etc.?

I can see how social features like those stated above can get you more involved in a game and with those who enjoy the same games that you do, however sometimes you just want a game that you want to play by yourself with no intrusions into the outside world.

What do you think? Are these types of features important to you? Are they important to you for games such as Word Mix?

v1.4.3 update for Word Mix Lite

v1.4.3 was a small update. The fullscreen ads that showed up every other game have been disabled. Sorry for any trouble they may have caused you.

Web hosting issues on 2/24 (Wednesday)

UPDATE: Looks like everything is back to normal. Sorry for the interruption or problems you all may have had.

All:

If you are experiencing issues with dictionary downloads or the leader board screen, please be patient. These items are hosted on a web server and the hosting company is having problems today. If you are doing a fresh install of Word Mix (Lite), the game should detect the server being down and automatically default to loading the "built in" dictionary that comes with the game. Again, I am sorry for these issues, but they are out of my control for the time being. Please be patient and I'll post something when I see that things are back up and running properly.

V1.4.1 update

Please upgrade your Word Mix and Word Mix Lite to version 1.4.1 on the Android Market. This update fixes a bug with the Puzzle game.

Version 1.4 Released!

Version 1.4 of Word Mix & Word Mix Lite has been released.

Updates include:

1) Two new dictionaries. A common words dictionary (loaded by default) and an advanced dictionary. See the application settings to change dictionaries.

2) With the added dictionaries there are now over 12000 levels of play!

3) A leader board is now available. See "High Scores" from the main menu. The leader board only keeps track of "Timed" games. "Puzzle" games are not tracked.


Unfortunately there were a few bugs introduced with this update. When you tap "End" on a puzzle game and select "End Level", the next level sometimes presents a "Game Over" when you come back to your game. Also there are some layout issues with the leader board. These issues will be addressed as soon as possible.

Concerns about permissions for Word Mix Lite

This post is to address permissions concerns users have been commenting on in the Android Market for Word Mix Lite. Word Mix and Word Mix Lite require various permissions in order to provide network services such as looking up words on Dictionary.com as well as permissions to handle saving the state of your game correctly when your device receives a phone call. Word Mix Lite has a few extra permissions that the ad companies which Word Mix Lite uses requested to be listed. Here is a list of the permissions and why they are there:

Network communication: full Internet access - This is to be able to look up words at Dictionary.com

Network communications: view network state - Allow the game to behave appropriately when no network services are available

Phone calls: read phone state - This is to make sure Word Mix behaves appropriately when your device receives calls

Services that cost you money: directly call phone numbers - This was requested by Greystripe ads in order to allow the user to click on ads that allow the user to make toll free calls to get more information about an ad. These ad campaigns are few and far between.

I've been in contact with Greystripe Ads regarding the "Services that cost you money" permission. They have stated that that permission can be disabled and no ads allowing the user to make toll free calls will be displayed.

Greenrift Software has decided to remove that permission in future updates to the application. Be looking for an update to Word Mix and Word Mix Lite in the next week or so removing this permission as well as providing some much needed dictionary updates.

Word Mix/Word Mix Lite update!

v1.3 updates include:

1) New preferences menu. To access: from the main menu press Menu on your device, then press Settings.
2) You are now able to change how long a timed game can be from 1 minute to 10 minutes. This can be done in the Settings menu.
3) Improved volume control. Now when you press volume up or down on your device, it will control the Media volume instead of the Ringer volume.
4) In Puzzle mode, you are now able to end a level at any time and the possible words will be displayed. If you have found the 6 letter word(s), then you will be able to move on to the next level. If not, your game will be over. When you press End, you still have the option to just suspend your current game and go back to the Main Menu.
